The Latest On Us

08/07/2010

From the land where rain flows like…like…water:

GREETINGS! We are indeed truly the lost Sooners

Southwesters (not Southwesterners) in the “Great”

Northwest. Lots and lots have transpired in the

days and weeks since our last update. We

have not forgotten about everybody. We just

get really busy with the church planting and when

you don’t hear from folks for a while you think that nobody is

looking at our site anyway! (I know…I know…the world’s

saddest song on the world’s smallest violin!)

Let’s start off with a disclaimer. Recently, the number

of people asking for resources from our site has increased

a bit. Folks want to download sermons or songs or want

sheet music or want to schedule Brother Davison for

a meeting (well, okay, we haven’t had that one yet)

or such like. Please understand, folks, one, our site is

designed to let our family and friends know how the Lord

is working through us and to let them know how we are doing.

Two, our site is around to let folks know what an

incredible place our home church of Southwest Baptist

Church is! Three, thanks for the flattery, but the sermons

and music and stuff like that – if you want them forever

and ever, we will need $500,000 in small, unmarked bills

left in a briefcase on the corner of Fourth Plain and 121st.

Either that OR you need to contact Southwest directly!

Thanks for writing though! We will help you where and

when we can!

Okay, as we tried to provide last time but were hindered

due to technical difficulties, here are a few pics from

Holli’s trip home for the transition week at SWBC.

Nice, huh?!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THAT ONE DUDE!

That One Dude!   He's Three!

Yeah, that Samuel Spivey kid…sheesh!

What to say about him?! :p HE’S THREE!

In early July we had an off-the-cuff, spur-of-the-moment

visit from the GloryBound Quartet from ol’

Heartland Baptist Bible College! It was a trip (this is

slang meaning it was a deliriously good time)!

Due to the Lord’s provision and scheduling conflicts,

GloryBound spent the weekend here with us and were

part of the Sunday morning services here at

Majesty Baptist Church of Vancouver, WA! They

arrived on a Friday and spent the day hanging out

with the Stalnakers and us. What a time! The whole

gang just ate up the stories and wisdom that Pastor

Stalnaker shared – they loved it! On Saturday, they ran

around with the Stalnakers and saw some sights

and stuff. Holli and I had the joy of hosting a

couple of the guys at our place and that was just all

kinds of fun, especially when you remember that we now

live in a small apartment! It was at that time that I

began wondering what is happening to these single

guys at Heartland! All I’ll say is, what do you do

with non-liquid laundry detergent?! Ha! Hey, props

to HBBC!

The GloryBound gang set out for visitation with us

on Saturday and we covered a lot of ground. Praise God

for the big help and lift that the group was in outreach!

As Sunday morning rolled around, we ended up with

our largest attendance up to this present time. The guys

(and Mrs. Mizer) really made a difference in the spirit

of the morning church service as the congregational

singing was “on” and the fellas sang six songs that

would just floor ya! When Pastor Stalnaker was done

preaching and the guys closed us out with one more song,

we washed it all down with a trip to Five Guys Burger

& Fries! (Kind of ironic, don’t you think?)

Yes, this day had revival come to this house.

We rejoice in the Lord for the salvation of the

first convert through the work of the ministry here.

A young man named Justin was won to Christ by

the Preacher. This young man and his family are now

going through discipleship. Please pray for Justin,

his family, and us as we teach them. Remember to pray

for the work too as we are trying to make a difference

in this dark place by reaching the lost!

Since GloryBound has come attendance has been up

at Majesty. Nearly every week we have been blessed

to see new faces in the services. Recently, the Stalnakers

went to Ohio for the birth of their grandson…by the way,

CONGRATULATIONS, AUSTIN & DEBBIE!

We rejoice with you over the birth of little Seth and are

thrilled about the way the good Lord is moving in your lives!

As I was saying, with the Stalnakers out for a few weeks,

Holli and I had the opportunity to play Pastor

and Pastor’s wife (not in that order). Oh my soul!

The preaching was fun but the rest was really REALLY

hard work! I‘ll tell you what though, I had the privilege

of preaching to the second largest crowd our church has

seen and if you don’t think that was fun, let me testify.

IT WAS! Ha ha! Not that I am some great preacher

or anything, but one should go to Heartland and learn

a thing or two about preaching. Folks in this area of the world

aren’t used to the kind of preaching that most of us

get exposed to in the Bible belt (specifically at Southwest).

I remember the first sermon I preached while the

Stalnakers were gone: at the end of the service everybody

sat in their place almost looking like they were in a state of

shock! Ha! Now, putting people into shock is great fun

but more importantly we want the Lord to be lifted up

before them and people need to take home truths

which the Bible conveys to them. Hopefully that happened.

This past weekend we helped Pastor and Mrs. Sandy

move into another house here in the Couv. You know

them Baptist preachers – WAY HEAVY OFFICE FURNITURE!

Praise God that Mrs. Sandy did not have a piano

to move! Ha!

Hey, this is getting really wordy and so we need to wrap

it up. Can we finish by saying that we really do

miss home? We mean our homeland – OKC – and our

family at SWBC! FYI, this church planting stuff is lonely and

people are weird (I mean that in a neighbor-loving,

Christ-honoring kind of way)! We like having the Lord with us.

He is gracious and merciful all of the time, this is true!

But, you know how it is! Nuff said! Somebody should

reach out and touch someone (like us)!

Peace in the name of the Lord! We’ll catch you next time.

P.S. Work good. Health good. Marriage good.

Church good. Holli looking for work.

Until next time...

~May God bless~
